NBC snags another "Dollhouse" alum for new pilot
Summer Glau is back. Summer Glau, who has probably starred in more cult sci-fi series than any other actress, with stints on Fox's "Firefly," "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Dollhouse," has joined NBC's superhero-themed drama pilot "The Cape" in a leading role. In the pilot, directed by Simon West, a former cop (David Lyons) is set up as a criminal and becomes a masked hero, the Cape, to clear his name.
Glau will play Orwell, a cute and intrepid investigative blogger who fearlessly goes after corrupt cops and costumed bad guys. And yes, she gets physical and is quite capable of kicking ass. Glau will next be seen in the Lifetime Movie Network film "Deadly Honeymoon." SourceYay Summer! |

Doctor Who star Matt Smith on sonic screwdrivers, Steven Moffat and following David Tennant With a brand new Doctor, production team and sonic screwdriver, not to mention the legacy of David Tennant to overcome, the stakes for the next series of Doctor Who are high. Neil Midgley followed the filming over six months. Mercure Holland House Hotel, Cardiff September 23, 2009 Steven Moffat, the new lead writer and executive producer of Doctor Who, calls the cast and crew assembled in the Caernarfon Suite to order. 'This,’ he says, with a portentousness that’s only half-sardonic, 'will be the most scrutinised hour of our television lives.’ No fewer than 58 members of cast and crew are gathered for the script read-through of the first episode of the 2010 run: a new series, but also a new production team, a new companion and a new Doctor in the form of Matt Smith. 'I think that’s Steven’s form of encouragement,’ Smith says drily. As the Doctor, Smith will be scrutinised not only by 10 million viewers, but also by some very nervous BBC executives and a dedicated – some would say slightly unhinged – online fan community. 'You don’t really think about it on a day-to-day level,’ Smith says. 'Because if you did, you’d never get anything done.’ Today Smith is wearing jeans and a sweater rather than the Time Lord’s natty new bow tie and tweed jacket – but there’s still no mistaking the thick, shiny quiff that will surely spawn a million youthful imitations this spring. ( The bow tie, with tweed jacket and braces, was Smith’s idea, and a last-minute replacement for a 'more piratey’ look that the producers had developed.) Though Smith, 27, received good notices for his breakthrough TV role, in the little-watched BBC2 political drama Party Animals, he was a surprise choice to play the Doctor. His energy and projection silence the room as the read-through gets under way, but they are almost matched by Moffat, who reads the stage directions so fast that people have trouble turning their pages quickly enough to keep up. EUROVISION POST Germany has just chosen its competitor and song for the Eurovision Song Contest. After years of disasterous results with "professional" singers it was decided to host a contest (comparable to American Idol) where everybody could enter...if they thought they could sing. From over 4000 participants the best 20 were chosen to compete on TV against each other and the viewers were to vote for their favorite. Now the German audience has chosen its champion...björk-esque 18 year old Lena Meyer-Landrut. I saw a Eurovision post some time back, but i don't know if there is any interest here...oh, and i hope i didn't make too many mistakes writing that text...SOURCE: 1 2 |

Lady Gaga on "Telephone" and Its Hidden Meaning All right, so we all had a chance to watch Lady Gaga's "Telephone." Now it's time to discuss the deeper meaning behind it. Speaking exclusively to E! News, Gaga says, "There's certainly always a hidden message in my music videos. But I would say most predominately, I'm always trying to convolute everyone's idea of what a pop music video should be." ( I don't want to think anymore. )SourceWhat do you think is the ~deeper commentary~ of the Telephone video? I enjoy the video, but I'm not sure I see how it's commenting on what kind of country we are...unless it's ~consumerism or something. I didn't really see that as the central theme, though. |

Dong Lover in NYT On a recent Monday night at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater in Manhattan, the comedian Leo Allen came out to kick off his stand-up showcase, “Whiplash,” and was startled at the packed 150-seat theater. “People are sitting on the floor,” he said, gazing at the cross-legged spectators. “They think Chris Rock’s going to be here or something.” But the audience members knew who they were there to see: Donald Glover, the 26-year-old actor, writer and comedian who stars on “Community” on NBC and whose videos are an Internet sensation. And even with the lights so bright, when Mr. Glover took the stage, he knew what type of crowd had come to see him. He’s gotten pretty good at sorting out his fans. ( One was about going on a date with a girl and slowly realizing that she was a Fraggle. )sourcelove the article, love him |

Jessica Simpson Doesn't Brush Her Teeth Wonder how Jessica Simpson maintains her million-dollar smile? So does she. "I don't brush my teeth," she told iheartradio Thursday. "No, really!" "I just use Listerine -- and sometimes I'll use my sweater," she claimed, bursting into laughter. "I do brush every now and again, but my teeth are extremely powerful. Fine, maybe when I'm 60 I'll all, "ow!" The singer adds that she loves "anything fried," and that her nutrition habits weren't always the best. "Growing up in Texas for me, fish was a fish stick. We weren't really the healthiest of people. [My mom] didn't force me to eat healthy." Simpson, 29, opened up yet again about her ex John Mayer's raunchy comments regarding their sex life. "Maybe in his mind he was thinking about giving me a compliment but he wasn’t," she quipped. "In relationships, in general, going through a divorce and going through very public break-ups ... you don’t want to disappoint people who are rooting for you to be successful in love. I just have to find the right man." Source VideoThat is fucking disgusting bitch. |

Phil Spector Appeals Murder Rap; Pop Producer in Prison for Shooting Death of Actress Lana Clarkson Music producer Phil Spector in 2009. (Credit: AP/Lawrence K. Ho) LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) Lawyers for pop music producer Phil Spector asked an appellate court to throw out his second-degree murder conviction for reasons written up in a 148-page brief. The brief filed on Wednesday cited multiple reasons why 70-year-old Spector was denied his right to a fair trial, including grounds of judicial error and prosecutorial misconduct. His lawyers claim, among other things, that prosecutors improperly argued Spector should be convicted based on bad character. Spector is serving 19 years to life in prison for the 2003 shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson, in Spector's mansion. Clarkson was the one-time star of "Barbarian Queen," a film from 1985. Defense lawyers claim she was depressed and shot herself. Phil Spector was the producer of a string of hit pop songs, primarily for female bands in the 1960s, as well as the Beatles album "Let it Be" and other records. source |

In the cold light of day... Critical reaction to "Telephone" video MTVSo now that it's finally here, what else can really be said about the "Telephone" video? To be honest, I'm not sure. It is electric and excellent and alive. It is certainly the best big-budget clip since, well, Gaga's last big-budget clip and probably the best video you'll see all year (well, either that or OK Go's new one). It more than lived up to the hype, which, frankly, few thought it would. But, perhaps most notably, it is an event. You will remember where you were when you first saw it. And when was the last time you could say that about a music video? With "Telephone," Gaga has entered the rarest of pop stratospheres, up there with the Madonnas and the, gasp, Michael Jacksons. I'm not comparing talent, just ability: ability to wow, to enthrall and put on a show — one I can only hope is continued sometime very soon. (Source)( Once you kill a cow... ) |

Orange Bro Willing To Go Orange For DWTS Evan Lysacek Is Willing to Endure Spray Tans for DWTS Figure skater Evan Lysacek may have won an Olympic gold in the Vancouver games, but he still has something to prove on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. “I’ve been criticized my whole career for being robotic, cold, stiff on the ice. People have said — direct quote — that I have ‘no dance ability on the ice whatsoever,’” he tells PEOPLE. “So [DWTS] is my opportunity to prove them wrong. I just achieved my lifelong dream, now I’m already ready for the next challenge.” To conquer that challenge, Lysacek says he’s willing to make a certain sacrifice and participate in a DWTS ritual that he wouldn’t normally enjoy: “ Spray tans! I usually don’t like to have them because I don’t like the smell of it, but I have had it before,” he says. “Spray me up, baby! I’m going full-force on this show. I’m not going to hold anything back.” Apart from the cosmetic approach, Lysacek will work hard to follow in the footsteps of fellow figure skater and Dancing with the Stars season 6 champ Kristi Yamaguchi. “I’m a little nervous as it gets closer, because Apolo [Ohno] and Kristi were so good, I think people are going to expect me to be good right off the bat,” he says. “Kristi actually really is a good dancer! I know I’m not a good dancer, but I’ll definitely work hard.” And he’ll be working overtime as well, traveling nationwide with Stars on Ice while shooting DWTS. Still, Lysacek says he is looking at the show as an opportunity to have some fun. “The last year has been so intense, and I felt like every step I took was so important,” he says. “This is just going to be fun, and obviously it’s a challenge so it’s going to satisfy that side of me. And even if I do feel some pressure and I’m nervous, there’s someone right next to me to hold my hand literally throughout the dance.” –Lisa Ingrassia Source lol nice way to justify your orangeness bro |

YES PLEASE Clive Owen Joins Jason Statham in The Killer Elite It would seem the action movie gods have shined upon me today, providing some potentially awesome material for my first post here at Screen Rant. We’ve known for a while that British action star Jason Statham is set to star in an upcoming thriller called The Killer Elite. The film is based on Ranulph Fiennes’ novel “The Feathermen,” and follows “a group of former British special forces members who are being hunted by assassins. Statham will play a former Navy Seal who is forced out of retirement to save his closest friend.” Now The Daily Mail is reporting fellow Englishman Clive Owen has joined the cast, presumably as the friend to Statham’s character. The last few years of Owen’s career have been interesting; he starred in the critically acclaimed Children of Men, Inside Man, and Sin City, but has also shown up in some questionable films like Derailed and The International. There have also been some strange projects along the way – Shoot ‘Em Up, anyone? – and recently it seems as if Owen has lost a bit of the edginess so wonderfully displayed in films like BMW’s The Hire series. Perhaps joining forces with the reigning bad-ass of Great Britain will rejuvenate him a bit. Statham has carved out a niche for himself as a genuine action star, ushering in a new breed of post-John McClane era heroes with a mixture of martial arts and tough guy machismo. It only helps his case that he does most of his own stunts (including driving) in the Transporter series and films like The Bank Job and Crank, and I would be hard pressed to find someone with an equal command over the genre as he has now. His upcoming role in Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables, perhaps the most insane collaboration of action stars past and present, is proof positive of Statham’s position in the hallowed halls of action stars. This new collaboration of the two actors will see a return to characters similar to those they’ve both played before. Statham, an ex-Navy Seal in The Killing Elite, played ex-special forces soldier Frank Martin in The Transporter and its two sequels. Owen has also tread this familiar ground, himself playing an assassin in The Bourne Identity. The Killing Elite was previously scheduled to begin production last fall, but supposedly the filmmakers have chosen to shoot the film in Australia sometime this year. No word yet on the official start date for the project. Here’s the part where I toss the conversation to you. Are you excited for The Killing Elite? Does the prospect of Statham and Owen side by gun-toting side have your action glands salivating? Let us know in the comments section.
